Smt. Manga Surendran (artistic director and choreographer of Eswaralaya Kalaikoodam) was the first student who performed an arangatram under the tutelage of late Smt. Gowri Muthukumarasami. She also studied with Smt. Balasundari Prathalingam and Smt. Subathra Sivadasan in Sri Lanka. Smt Manga started her teaching career in Sri Lanka in a leading school in Colombo. She regularly attends the Naatya Kala Conference which is held in Chennai to keep up with the latest developments in India. A few years back, Manga underwent and extensive course at Kalakshetra, Chennai. Manga has performed countless solo recitals and group dances whilst she was a student in Sri Lanka.
During her teaching time, Manga has solely conducted 6 talented students to do their Arangatram. One was held in Brisbane Australia, other one was held in Sri Lanka and the rest were held in New Zealand.
Manga has a unique capacity for training students in Bharatha Natyam, folk dances and dance dramas. A large number of enthusiastic pupils from diverse cultural backgrounds undergo training in a systematic, disciplined and professional manner under her guidance.
